The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) vigilance wing seized 12 electric motors illegally connected to public water pipelines in Boduppal on Tuesday. The inspection was conducted in Sri Lakshmi Nagar Colony and Prashanth Nagar under Uppal Zone Division-4 during regular water supply hours.
Officials found several households drawing water directly from pipelines by attaching electric motors to tap connections, a practice that affects water pressure and disrupts supply to neighbouring residents. The motors were immediately removed and confiscated during the special enforcement drive.
HMWSSB officials warned that strict action will be taken against consumers involved in illegal water extraction. Repeat offenders may face a Rs.5,000 fine along with criminal cases under board regulations. The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board advised residents facing low water pressure or supply issues to contact local managers, deputy general managers or general managers instead of using illegal methods. Complaints can also be registered through the HMWSSB customer care helpline 155313 for prompt action.
