In a powerful prelude to International Yoga Day, Andhra Pradesh etched its name in history as 25,000 tribal students performed 108 Surya Namaskars in 108 minutes, setting a new Guinness World Record at a special yoga event held at Andhra University Engineering Grounds in Visakhapatnam.
The momentous occasion was part of the state’s flagship “YogAndhra 2025” initiative, organized by the Andhra Pradesh government. Education and IT Minister Nara Lokesh, who participated in the event, lauded the achievement as a proud moment not just for the state, but for the entire nation. “Today, the eyes of the nation—and the world—are on Visakhapatnam, and we have shown what discipline, determination, and vision can achieve.”
The event saw the participation of 25,000 students from Alluri district, who trained rigorously for months under the guidance of instructors and district officials. The students moved in unison, performing Surya Namaskars with near-military precision, embodying the discipline Lokesh emphasized in his emotional address.
The event witnessed the presence of several senior leaders and officials including Union AYUSH Minister Prataprao Jadhav, Tribal Welfare Minister Gummadi Sandhya Rani, Health Minister Satyakumar Yadav, MP C.M. Ramesh, MLA Bojjala Sudheer Reddy, Chief Secretary K.S. Jawahar Reddy, YogAndhra Nodal Officer M.T. Krishna Babu, and Alluri District Collector Dinesh Kumar.
