DCP Ranjan Ratan calls for strict traffic discipline

Amid rising road accidents, the Cyberabad Police have urged motorists to strictly follow traffic rules, warning that a moment of negligence can turn into a lifelong tragedy for families. Traffic DCP-I Ranjan Ratan Kumar said road accidents are not just statistics or newspaper headlines, but personal losses that leave families shattered, with parents grieving and children waiting endlessly for loved ones who never return.

The DCP said most accidents occur due to overspeeding, drunken driving, wrong-route travel, signal jumping, reckless overtaking, using mobile phones while driving, and failure to wear helmets or seat belts. He cautioned that even a minor lapse in attention can lead to fatal consequences. Drunk driving, he stressed, not only risks the driver’s life but also endangers other road users.

He warned that wrong-route driving, rash overtaking, and jumping signals do not save time but increase the risk of serious accidents. The casual mindset of “it’s just a short distance” often turns fatal. Motorists and pedestrians alike were advised to remain alert and cautious at all times.

The police stressed that two-wheeler riders, including pillion riders, must compulsorily wear helmets, while drivers of four-wheelers and heavy vehicles must use seat belts. These measures, he said, are meant to save lives and not merely to avoid fines. Pedestrians were also advised to cross roads carefully.

The DCP further warned against overspeeding, allowing minors to drive, and travelling without valid documents. Drivers must carry licences, registration, insurance, and pollution control certificates. He added that lane discipline can reduce congestion and prevent accidents.

He said strict enforcement and legal action against traffic violations will continue and appealed to citizens to follow rules responsibly, warning that a few seconds of negligence can plunge multiple families into irreversible grief.
