Governor S. Abdul Nazeer on Wednesday asserted that Andhra Pradesh’s reconstruction process is firmly on track, stating that despite financial limitations, the state has returned to the path of growth through careful prioritisation and structural reforms.
Addressing the joint session of the Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council at the commencement of the Budget Session, the Governor said the government had undertaken major reforms over the past 21 months and that visible progress was evident across all sectors. “The people of Andhra Pradesh have entrusted this government with the responsibility of rebuilding the state through welfare, development and good governance. Though the state inherited severe economic imbalances and mounting debts, decisive steps have been taken to stabilise finances, reduce borrowing costs and restore credibility,” he said.
Highlighting the challenges faced by the present administration, the Governor pointed out that years of fiscal stress had pushed several sectors into crisis. “With a clear vision of Swarna Andhra, the government has focused on reviving the economy and putting the state back on a sustainable development trajectory,” he added.
Presenting key economic indicators, Abdul Nazeer said Andhra Pradesh’s financial performance had shown significant improvement. “As per the first advance estimates for 2025-26, the Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) has increased from Rs. 15.91 lakh crore last year to Rs. 17.62 lakh crore, registering a nominal growth rate of 10.75 percent,” he said.
Referring to the previous regime, the Governor said the present government had issued seven White Papers to expose administrative and financial irregularities of the past. These documents, he said, revealed facts about misuse of public funds, derailment of the Polavaram project, mismanagement of the power sector, exploitation of natural resources, controversial excise policies, deterioration of law and order, and the attempt to weaken Amaravati through the three-capitals proposal. “Immediately after assuming office, the government focused on implementing the ‘Super Six’ promises and gradually shifted governance from a revival mode to a growth-oriented model,” he stated.
The Governor reiterated that the state government was working in alignment with the national goal of building a developed India by 2047. “Our aim is to transform Andhra Pradesh into a prosperous, healthy and happy state. This mission requires the participation of every citizen,” he said.
Concluding his address, Abdul Nazeer expressed confidence that Andhra Pradesh was moving ahead with unity and determination. “The government is committed to building a future where every citizen lives with dignity and equal opportunities,” he affirmed.
