The Andhra Pradesh government is set to introduce advanced technology-driven systems to modernise the functioning of Lepakshi handicraft showrooms and improve marketing opportunities for artisans across the state. The initiative aims to strengthen the handicrafts sector by integrating artificial intelligence, real-time monitoring, and digital commerce platforms to boost sales and provide sustainable livelihoods to artisans.
According to a statement issued by the office of Handlooms and Textiles Minister S. Savitha, the coalition government has developed an AI-based command-and-control system named “Taranga” along with a WhatsApp-based AI tool called “Kalakshi” to promote Andhra Pradesh’s traditional handicrafts and connect artisans directly with consumers.
The government stated that handicrafts are not merely products but symbols of regional culture, heritage, and tradition. With many artisans struggling due to lack of marketing support and visibility, the state has decided to use technology to expand market access while ensuring dignified livelihoods for craftsmen.
Under the Andhra Pradesh Handicrafts Development Corporation (APHDC), there are currently 19 Lepakshi showrooms, including outlets in Delhi, Kolkata, and Hyderabad. The newly developed “Taranga” system will enable state-level authorities to monitor showroom operations in real time, including stock availability, daily sales, staff performance, and demand patterns across locations.
The system will also generate automated alerts when stock levels become low. Red alerts will indicate critical shortages while orange alerts will warn of declining inventory levels. Officials said this would help streamline supply management and ensure quicker replenishment of handicraft products.
The government is also introducing “Kalakshi,” an AI-powered WhatsApp platform that will allow customers to explore handicraft products, learn about their cultural background and production process, and place orders directly through mobile phones for home delivery. Users can type queries in Telugu or English and receive instant information about products and artisans within seconds. Minister Savitha said the initiative reflects Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s vision of promoting Andhra Pradesh’s cultural heritage while ensuring year-round employment opportunities for artisans. She stated that the AI-driven platforms would help increase handicraft sales, improve visibility for artisans, and bring traditional art forms closer to modern consumers.
