The Andhra Pradesh government has set a target of providing more than one lakh piped natural gas (PNG) connections across the state every month, Civil Supplies, Food and Consumer Affairs Minister Nadendla Manohar announced on Thursday. Addressing a media conference at the Secretariat following a Cabinet decision, Minister Nadendla Manohar said the state is actively working to shift LPG cylinder users in major urban areas towards PNG for a more reliable and convenient cooking gas supply.

He highlighted that PNG ensures uninterrupted gas supply and brings additional benefits, including central government incentives for apartments and industrial units that adopt the facility. In a significant move, the government is also taking steps to install PNG connections at prominent pilgrimage centres including Tirupati, Vijayawada Kanaka Durga Temple, Sri Kalahasti, Annavaram and Simhachalam temples. Plans are in place to extend PNG connections to all Annapurna canteens as well, he informed.

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has directed officials to accelerate the expansion of PNG connections. As part of this, applications for PNG connections will now be processed and approved within 24 hours.  Minister Manohar clarified that approximately 2.70 lakh LPG cylinders are being supplied every day on a regular basis. The surge in unnecessary bookings triggered by false rumours on social media had caused some temporary inconvenience, but the situation is now under control. The minister added that daily deliveries normally range between 2.70 lakh and 2.80 lakh cylinders, and on some days the supply has even reached 3.30 lakh cylinders. He urged people not to believe unfounded rumours and to book cylinders only when genuinely required.
