Women can travel free of cost in RTC buses from August 15

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu instructed the officials on Monday to provide 'Zero Fare Ticket' to women under the RTC free bus travel scheme to be implemented for women from August 15. He instructed that details such as source and destination and how much money has been saved for them with free travel should be included in that ticket. The Chief Minister said that all the women commuters in the state should be able to easily know how much they have benefited from giving zero fare ticket and directed to prepare software in this regard.
The Chief Minister reviewed the RTC free bus travel scheme for women at the secretariat on Monday. He discussed with the officials about the cost incurred in the states in which the scheme is being implemented and how much cost AP government might have to incur. He made it clear that the scheme should be implemented effectively from August 15. At the same time he wanted it to be done in a way such that APSRTC is not financially burdened.
The Chief Minister suggested that the company should be made profitable by enhancing other sources of income and reducing operating costs and called for an action plan to be formulated on that. On the other hand, the Chief Minister directed the officials to buy only AC electric buses in from now on and said that maintenance cost will be reduced if the existing ones are converted into electric buses. He also called for studying the issue of setting up charging stations in all RTC depots in the state.
