The Telangana Chief Minister, A Revanth Reddy, has issued a sharp rebuttal to former Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, accusing him of endangering the state's water interests. Speaking at the Rythu Bharosa Vijayotsava Sabha near the Rajiv Gandhi statue in front of the Secretariat, Revanth addressed the misinformation surrounding his position on the Banakacharla project. He clarified that it was KCR who laid the foundation for the project in 2016 and alleged that the former CM effectively issued a “death warrant” against Telangana’s rightful share of Krishna river water by backing it during his tenure.
Revanth threw an open challenge to KCR to participate in a discussion in the State Assembly on water sharing, particularly related to the Krishna River. He demanded KCR write to the Speaker and declare readiness for a full-fledged debate. “If I wanted to align with Chandrababu Naidu, I would have stayed in Andhra Pradesh politics. I came to Telangana to take blessings from Rajiv Gandhi, not to betray Telangana like you did with Sonia Gandhi,” he said.
The CM reiterated the Congress government’s commitment to farmer welfare, stating that 70 lakh farmers across 1.49 crore acres benefited from Rythu Bharosa disbursals, with Rs 9,000 crore credited within just nine days—a historic achievement. He highlighted that in just 18 months, Rs 1.04 lakh crore was spent for the farming community.
Revanth slammed the previous BRS government’s policies, accusing them of turning irrigation and farmer sentiment into revenue-generation avenues while leaving essential projects incomplete. He raised pointed questions about unfulfilled projects like Kalwakurthy, Nettempadu, Bheema, and Sitarama, questioning why projects requiring Rs 300–6,000 crore were left abandoned despite paying Rs 2 lakh crore to contractors. The CM also launched a scathing personal attack on KCR and his family, questioning their sudden acquisition of farmhouses and alleged wealth while burdening Telangana with Rs 8 lakh crore debt.
Tummala highlights Cong. Govt’s record spending on Agriculture
Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao hailed the Congress government's unprecedented efforts towards agrarian welfare, declaring that Rs 1.04 lakh crore was spent on agriculture in just 18 months. He stated that under the crop loan waiver program, Rs 21,000 crore was credited to 25 lakh farming families. Additionally, under the Rythu Bharosa scheme, Rs 8,284.66 crore was directly credited to 67.01 lakh farmers within a record span of nine days.
Tummala also noted Telangana’s bumper Rabi harvest of 1.53 crore metric tonnes of paddy cultivated across 66 lakh acres. He asserted that schemes like Rythu Bharosa and crop loan waiver have made Telangana a model state for agricultural policy, inspiring nationwide attention.
He criticised the opposition for peddling falsehoods, emphasising that the Congress government is committed to transforming agriculture into a celebration and farmers into stakeholders of prosperity. The Rythu Bharosa Vijayotsava Sabha was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, PCC President A Revanth Reddy, Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao, senior Congress leaders, legislators, and a large gathering of farmers.
