State Minister for Women, Child Welfare, and Tribal Welfare, Gummadi Sandhya Rani, announced that the construction of a 100-bed hospital in Saluru has resumed.
On Saturday, the minister inspected the construction site of the 100-bed hospital, which is progressing rapidly. Addressing the media, she said that the construction of the hospital was sanctioned during her tenure as an MLC and under the TDP government in 2019. The foundation stone was laid in 2019 but the subsequent government neglected the project.
“The construction of a 100-bed hospital is a long-standing dream of the tribal and poor people in this region,” she said. She added that the Saluru constituency, with a large number of panchayats, needs significant development.
The minister expressed her concern over the lack of adequate medical facilities in the area, stating that people often have to be referred to bigger hospitals in Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam in emergencies. She mentioned that it was heartbreaking to hear news of patients dying on the way to these hospitals.
Sandhya Rani said that she had brought the issue to the attention of the Chief Minister immediately after the coalition government came to power. Responding positively, the Chief Minister sanctioned an immediate fund of Rs. 4 crores for the hospital's construction. She further explained that the construction work has resumed at a rapid pace and is expected to be completed within the next three months.
The minister also stated that the state's financial condition is not ideal, but the Chief Minister is continuously striving to provide quality education and healthcare to the poor. She appealed to everyone to work together to complete the hospital construction and save lives.
A waiting hall has been constructed at the hospital with a cost of Rs. 10.80 lakhs, where pregnant women will be provided with nutritious food and accommodation in this hall until delivery.
Parvatipuram Deputy DMHO Dr. K.V.S. Padmavathi, Saluru Area Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr. A.K. Ratna Kumari, and other officials were present at the event.
