Big push for RRR, HAM roads in new budget proposals

Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy on Wednesday directed officials to prepare focused and outcome-based Budget Estimates for 2026–27, and stressed his Department plays a decisive role in accelerating Telangana’s growth trajectory.

Reviewing last year’s allocations, progress of works and fund releases at the Secretariat, Minister Komatireddy stressed that clear planning and financial discipline must guide the upcoming annual budget. He called for prioritising “game changer” infrastructure projects, particularly the Regional Ring Road (RRR), in alignment with the State’s long-term development roadmap.

Referring to the “Rising Telangana–2047” vision under Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, Minister Komatireddy said strengthening the State’s road network remains a top priority keeping in view of the growing vehicular load and population. He noted that the government intends to construct high-quality roads across Telangana under the Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM) and urged officials to overcome existing bottlenecks through coordinated efforts.

Minister Komatireddy emphasised transparency in sharing of funds between the Centre and the State, stating that there should be no ambiguity in financial coordination for ongoing and proposed works.

On national highway projects, Minister Komatireddy announced that the 8-lane expansion of the Hyderabad–Vijayawada stretch of National Highway 65 is set to commence shortly. He said he would once again urge Union Minister Nitin Gadkari to expedite the project, which is expected to reduce travel time between Hyderabad and Vijayawada to about two-and-a-half hours upon completion.

Minister Komatireddy also said he would meet concerned Union Ministers to speed up centrally assisted projects in Telangana.

Special Chief Secretary Vikas Raj assured that the department would prepare structured and realistic budget proposals as advised by the Minister and ensure close coordination among officials for timely execution of priority works.

Engineers-in-Chief Mohan Nayak and Jaya Bharathi, Chief Engineers Srinivas Reddy, Rajeshwar Reddy, Vasanth Nayak, B.V. Rao, Linga Reddy and Narsing Rao, among others, attended the review meeting.
