BJP alleges political pressure in SIR

A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) delegation led by Telangana BJP President N. Ramchander Rao on Monday submitted a memorandum to the Telangana Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) C Sudarshan Reddy, raising concerns over the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in the state. The delegation alleged that eligible voters were facing hurdles during the voter registration process in the Hyderabad, Secunderabad, Malkajgiri and Chevella Parliamentary constituencies.

Addressing the media after meeting the CEO, Ramchander Rao said the BJP had brought to the Election Commission's notice several complaints relating to alleged political interference, intimidation of Booth Level Officers (BLOs), and obstacles in enrolling eligible voters ahead of the August 3 deadline for completion of the SIR exercise.

He alleged that leaders and workers of the Congress and AIMIM were exerting pressure on BLOs and attempting to prevent the registration of eligible voters, particularly people from other states, IT professionals and working citizens who have settled in Hyderabad and surrounding areas. He claimed to have personally witnessed such incidents in the Karwan Assembly constituency.

Ramchander Rao reiterated that every Indian citizen has the constitutional right to register as a voter in the place where they ordinarily reside, provided they are enrolled at only one location. He alleged that attempts were being made to deny this right to voters perceived to support the BJP.

The BJP also urged the CEO to immediately release pending dues payable to BLOs since 2025.

According to Ramchander Rao, the CEO assured the delegation that the complaints would be examined and appropriate action would be taken to safeguard the rights of eligible voters and ensure a fair revision process.
