Bollywood mourns Robert Redford’s death at 89, joins Hollywood in paying tribute to the legendary actor, director, and Sundance founder
Oscar-winning actor and director Robert Redford passed away on Tuesday at the age of 89 at his home in Sundance, Utah. A towering figure in global cinema, Redford leaves behind a legacy of unforgettable performances, powerful direction, and tireless advocacy for independent film.
The news of his death prompted an outpouring of tributes from both Bollywood and international celebrities.
Actor Anil Kapoor shared heartfelt words alongside throwback photos, writing, “Rest in peace, Robert Redford. From Barefoot in the Park to The Great Gatsby, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, The Sting and so many more—he was one of the most captivating men ever. His legacy is more than just his face—he acted, directed, inspired, and created the Sundance Festival, giving countless filmmakers their first break.” He added, “You may be gone, Robert, but you’ll always live on—through your films, your artistry, your spirit.”
Soni Razdan posted a photo of Redford on her Instagram story with a broken heart emoji, while Kareena Kapoor Khan shared one of his quotes: “Storytelling is important. Part of human continuity.”
Actress Nargis Fakhri and director Anurag Kashyap also paid tribute on social media with photos and messages honouring the legendary artist.
Redford rose to fame in the 1960s and became one of Hollywood’s leading men in the ’70s, starring in classics such as The Candidate, All the President’s Men, and The Way We Were. His breakout role in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid not only cemented his stardom but later inspired the creation of the Sundance Institute and Film Festival.
