Cyberabad Traffic Police booked 284 motorists during a special weekend drunk-driving enforcement drive conducted across various locations in the commissionerate limits.
According to police, the highest number of violations involved two-wheelers, with 247 riders caught driving under the influence of alcohol. The drive also resulted in cases against three three-wheeler drivers and 34 four-wheeler drivers. No heavy vehicle drivers were found violating the law.
Based on Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) levels, 223 offenders recorded readings between 36 mg and 200 mg per 100 ml of blood, while 33 motorists registered BAC levels between 201 mg and 300 mg. Another 28 offenders were found with BAC levels ranging from 301 mg to 550 mg, indicating severe intoxication.
All offenders will be produced before the court for further legal action.
Police reiterated that drunk driving is a serious offence and warned that motorists causing fatal accidents while under the influence of alcohol could face charges under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, which carries a maximum punishment of 10 years' imprisonment along with a fine.
Meanwhile, courts disposed of 164 drunk-driving cases between June 1 and June 6. Two offenders were awarded jail terms along with fines, 16 were ordered to perform social service in addition to paying fines, while 146 were penalised with fines only.
