Doctors at CARE Hospitals, Malakpet treated a 42-year-old Hyderabad homemaker diagnosed with a 4.5 cm brain tumor located dangerously close to critical brain structures and major blood vessels. An MRI scan revealed a tumor measuring approximately 4.5 cm × 3.5 cm × 3.5 cm in the right sphenoid wing region of the brain.
According to the treating team, any delay in treatment could have put the patient at risk of permanent vision loss, paralysis and other serious neurological complications. The neurosurgical team, led by Dr. Bhavani Prasad Ganji, Consultant Neurosurgeon performed a right frontotemporal craniotomy. The tumor was completely removed, while restoring the normal anatomical planes.
The patient spent just one day in the ICU following surgery and was discharged on the fourth postoperative day. Dr. Bhavani Prasad mentioned that the location of the tumor made the surgery challenging as it was close to major blood vessels and added that dissection was essential to achieve complete removal while protecting the surrounding anatomy.
