Metro India News | Hyderabad
HMRL Additional Managing Director B Ajith Reddy on Wednesday instructed officials to initiate discussions with manufacturers to arrange for additional coaches at the earliest, emphasising the importance of safe and convenient travel for passengers.
Reddy, who conducted a review meeting with senior officials from various Metro departments on the operation and development of existing Metro corridors, directed officials to prepare new plans to further develop Hyderabad Metro by providing improved services to the public, a release said. In the first phase, covering 69 km of Metro corridors, Reddy reviewed passenger amenities, last-mile connectivity, safety measures, parking facilities, station cleanliness and crowd management strategies.
He discussed transport options available for commuters to reach their destinations, and stressed the need to coordinate with public transport agencies to ensure seamless connectivity. Existing last-mile vehicle services should be expanded further, he said, directing coordination with RTC and Transport Department officials to explore suitable solutions.
The Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited Additional MD further instructed officials to take measures for the maintenance and expansion of skywalks connected to Metro stations, and to coordinate with railway authorities on managing skywalks and other connecting routes between railway and Metro stations. Each Metro station should have a localised plan, he said, suggesting pilot implementation at select stations before expanding to others.
He announced plans to personally inspect station operations and maintenance through field visits soon. The progress of proposals for the Public Rapid Transit System in high-density areas such as Hitec City, Raidurg, Gachibowli, Financial District and Kondapur was also reviewed. Safety measures being implemented by the Metro Rail Security Department for passenger protection were discussed in detail, the release added.
