The Council for Green Revolution (CGR), a Hyderabad-based environmental NGO, has made history by becoming the first environmental organization in India to launch an issue on the National Stock Exchange’s Social Stock Exchange (SSE). The Rs 85 lakh issue aims to support the second phase of its flagship initiative, the Young Earth Leadership Program (YELP-2).

The fundraising issue, which opened on May 7 and will close on May 27, utilizes Zero Coupon Zero Principal (ZCZP) bonds, a SEBI-approved financial instrument. These bonds do not offer interest or principal repayment, but donors can avail of 80G income tax benefits.

YELP-2 is designed to empower students to lead environmental change in their communities through hands-on activities such as composting, plantation drives, biodiversity documentation, and school-based eco-projects. CGR also publishes “Pudami,” a children’s magazine that shares inspiring stories and best practices from participating schools.

Founded on Earth Day in 2010, CGR has been at the forefront of environmental conservation, tree planting, and climate education. Over the years, it has planted over 34 lakh trees, worked with 11 lakh students across 4,000 government schools, and organized national climate conferences.

The funds raised will help CGR plant 16,000 saplings, establish gardens and compost pits, install water harvesting units, set up waste collection centers, and conduct climate education training for students. The official listing of CGR on the NSE is scheduled for June 4, 2025, at the NSE Head Office in Mumbai, marking a significant milestone in India’s environmental movement.
