Pulse prices remained steady across major spot markets on Friday as demand and supply stayed broadly balanced. Traders expect chana prices to strengthen during August on higher festival-related consumption, while tur and masur are likely to remain range-bound due to comfortable supplies from government stocks and imports.
Chana prices in Indore were unchanged at ₹6,050-6,100 per 100 kg. Traders said market activity remained subdued as weak demand matched limited arrivals. Despite the current stability, traders expect chana prices to rise by ₹100-200 per 100 kg in August when demand for chana dal and besan typically increases during the festive season. However, the availability of government stocks and imported Australian chana is expected to cap any sharp increase.
Chana prices in Delhi also remained steady at ₹5,925-5,950 per 100 kg. Tur prices in Akola, Maharashtra, were unchanged at ₹8,000-8,025 per 100 kg as arrivals continued despite seasonal expectations of lower supplies. Traders said sowing in Maharashtra has resumed after delayed monsoon rains and is expected to gather pace within the remaining sowing window. Even if acreage remains lower than last year, market participants believe abundant government stocks and imported tur will prevent significant price increases. Tur prices in Katni, Madhya Pradesh, also remained steady at ₹8,150-8,250 per 100 kg. —Informist
