Climate experts have stated that the climate intelligence revolution will be a game changer in helping India’s agriculture and horticulture sectors withstand climate extremes and climate-related challenges.
Telangana is among the leading states in the country in collecting weather-related data, they said. Addressing the National Brainstorming Workshop on “Climate Intelligence Revolution and Agribusiness Modelling,” being held on October 30 and 31 at the College of Horticulture, Rajendranagar; Telangana Agriculture Department Director Gopi emphasized the need to adopt advanced technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) to effectively address climate-related disasters, including El Niño and cyclones, and ensure that their benefits reach farmers.
Dr. J. V. Singh, Adviser and Head of the Outreach Wing, Ministry of Earth Sciences, explained that India had significantly improved its long-range weather forecasting capabilities, progressing from a resolution of 150 kilometres to approximately six kilometres. Dr. Danda Raji Reddy, Vice-Chancellor of Sri Konda Laxman Telangana Horticultural University and president of the workshop, observed that the evolution of weather forecasting since the 1980s, combined with modern AI technologies, had made it possible to provide increasingly accurate weather information and advisories to farmers and the public.
