Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Monday urged Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh to develop the upcoming Adilabad Airport with comprehensive aviation infrastructure, including cargo, Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO), and hangar facilities, while also seeking early approval for a DRDO defence project at Devarakadra in Mahabubnagar district.

The Chief Minister met Rajnath Singh at Kartavya Bhavan in New Delhi and discussed a range of infrastructure and defence related initiatives concerning Telangana. During the meeting, Revanth Reddy expressed gratitude to the Defence Ministry for transferring defence lands required for the prestigious Gandhi Sarovar project in Hyderabad.

The Chief Minister assured the Union Government of Telangana's full cooperation in land acquisition and utility shifting works required for the development and expansion of Adilabad Airport, which is being taken up under the aegis of the Indian Air Force. He described the airport as a priority project for the State Government and emphasised its strategic importance from both civil aviation and national security perspectives.

Revanth Reddy requested the Defence Minister to support the creation of a world class aviation ecosystem at Adilabad by establishing cargo handling infrastructure, MRO facilities and hangars in addition to the proposed Indian Air Force and civil aviation terminals. He pointed out that several global airlines are currently exploring suitable locations for hangar facilities and maintenance operations, and said Adilabad offers excellent potential due to its geographical and operational advantages.

The Chief Minister also sought the Defence Minister's intervention to expedite approval for a DRDO and DRDL related defence project proposed at Devarakadra in Mahabubnagar district. He said the project would significantly strengthen Telangana's role in India's defence manufacturing and research ecosystem.
