Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has said the Telangana government has drawn up an ambitious plan to transform Hyderabad into a “Traffic free city” through a comprehensive network of underpasses, surface roads, elevated corridors, multi level parking facilities and an integrated multi modal transport system.
Addressing the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Urban Affairs and Housing in a meeting held at Secretariat on Saturday, the Chief Minister said merely widening roads would not solve the growing traffic congestion in Hyderabad. He stressed the need for a multi pronged transportation strategy to meet the challenges arising from rapid urbanization and modernization in the city.
The meeting was attended by Standing Committee Chairman M. Srinivas Reddy, Congress MP Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy and other members. The Chief Minister explained that the government was focusing on creating seamless traffic movement through infrastructure expansion while also addressing parking shortages by establishing multi level parking complexes across the city. Revanth Reddy also outlined the government’s long term vision for Telangana’s development through the CURE, PURE and RARE economic model. Under this framework, the area within the Outer Ring Road, termed Core Urban Region Economy (CURE), will be developed into a service sector hub. The Peri Urban Region Economy (PURE), extending from the Outer Ring Road to the Regional Ring Road, will focus on manufacturing industries, while the Rural Agriculture Region Economy (RARE) beyond the Regional Ring Road will promote agriculture and allied sectors.
