Coal Quality standards should be raised, says Kishan Reddy

The Central Coal Ministry has geared up to ensure that the government coal companies produce quality coal to meet the demand in the coming days in order to achieve self-sufficiency in the energy sector. As part of this, a key review meeting was held on Coal India and Singareni collieries company limited. In the meeting, key directions were given on the challenges faced in terms of the coal production cost reduction, quality, supply and other issues and the steps to be taken on them.

Coal Secretary Vikram Dev Dutt and other senior officials participated in this video conference meeting held from Delhi under the chairmanship of Union Minister for Coal @ Mines G. Kishan Reddy. On the occasion, the Chairman and MD of the Singareni company N. Balaram participated in the review from Singareni Bhavan in the city. He explained the progress of the Singareni company, its future plans and other issues through a power point presentation.

Speaking on the occasion, Union Minister for Coal and Mines G. Kishan Reddy said the cost of the coal production should be reduced significantly without any problem in the salaries and welfare programs of the workers and added that the cooperation of the trade unions should be taken and the work culture should be improved to achieve this goal. He also said a committee should be formed with the Singareni officials and experts of the Ministry of Coal to reduce the cost of production. He said the committee should conduct a direct field inspection and the practical suggestions made by the committee should be implemented immediately to reduce the cost of production. 

Coal Secretary Vikram Dev Dutt said it was important for the survival of the coal companies to increase new mines and added that by reducing the cost of the production, the coal prices can be made affordable to the consumers, which will ultimately reduce the cost of electricity generation and benefit the people.
