Collective action crucial for tiger conservation: Konda Surekha

Forest, Environment and Endowments Minister Konda Surekha on Wednesday urged people from all sections of society to take responsibility for tiger conservation, stating that the Earth belongs to all living beings and not just humans.

Addressing the International Tiger Day celebrations held at the Telangana State Forest Academy in Dulapally, Medchal-Malkajgiri district, the minister said protecting tigers means safeguarding forests, biodiversity and the future of generations. She inspected a photo exhibition and watched a short film on tiger conservation.

Surekha said International Tiger Day is observed every year on July 29 to create awareness about tiger protection. Highlighting India's conservation efforts, she said around 75% of the world’s tigers are found in India, with 58 tiger reserves functioning across the country.

She said Telangana’s Amrabad and Kawal Tiger Reserves hold a significant place in wildlife conservation. While Amrabad has witnessed growth in tiger numbers through habitat improvement and protection measures, Kawal is implementing tiger reintroduction efforts by connecting with Maharashtra’s Tadoba Tiger Reserve.

The minister also felicitated forest personnel and students who excelled in conservation activities and competitions.
