To commemorate the 22nd death anniversary of former union minister and APCC President Dr. Mallikarjun, many leaders gathered at his statue in Mahaboobnagar and paid tributes to him on Wednesday. Leaders recalled Dr. Mallikarjun's contributions towards the nation's development particularly during his tenure as Minister of State for Defence and Minister of state for Railways.
They also recalled his role as a student leader during the Telangana agitation of 1969 and his dedication in strengthening the Congress party as the APCC President and as well as his pivotal role in the development of Mahabubnagar parliamentary constituency.
Dr. Mallikarjun, a six-time Lok Sabha member, began his public service career during the 1969 Telangana agitation, playing a pivotal role as a student union leader from Osmania University, where he studied medicine. He served under Prime Ministers Indira Gandhi and PV Narasimha Rao and remained a staunch supporter of the Telangana cause. His dedication culminated in leading the Congress Forum for Telangana until his passing on December 24 in 2002.
Prominent dignitaries including Congress leaders Dr. C. Vamshi Chand Reddy, ex-MLA, Mahabubnagar MLA Yennam Srinivas Reddy, Jadcherla MLA Janampalli Anirudh Reddy, Telangana State Police Housing Corporation Chairman Gurunath Reddy, Manu Mallikarjun, son of Late Dr Mallikarjun, Telangana State Minority Finance Corporation (TSMFC) Chairman & Ex-DCC President Obaiduallah Kotwal along with other leaders and citizens, paid tributes to him at his statue in Mahabubnagar.
