On Tuesday, Telangana BJP President N. Ramchander Rao launched a sharp attack on the Congress party, accusing it of historically undermining B. R. Ambedkar while continuing to mislead the public on contemporary issues such as delimitation and women’s empowerment.

Extending greetings to the people, Rao described Dr. Ambedkar as not merely a legal luminary but a relentless crusader for social justice and equality. He alleged that despite recent public gestures by Rahul Gandhi showcasing the Constitution, the Congress party’s historical actions tell a contradictory story. Rao claimed that Congress systematically obstructed Ambedkar’s political journey. He stated that the party prevented Ambedkar from contesting elections in the Bombay Presidency and opposed his entry into the Constituent Assembly.

Further elaborating, Rao alleged that Jawaharlal Nehru was initially reluctant to appoint Ambedkar as Chairman of the Drafting Committee. He also cited letters from 1953 and 1961, claiming that Nehru expressed reservations about the policy of reservations, describing it as potentially harmful and showing discomfort with job quotas. Rao further accused Congress of defeating Ambedkar in elections on two occasions and failing to confer the Bharat Ratna upon him. He pointed out that the honour was awarded only later by a non-Congress government.
