The Secunderabad District Congress Committee (DCC) on Wednesday staged a protest at the Gandhi statue on M.G. Road against the FIR registered against Congress leader and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Shri Rahul Gandhi, in connection with the incident in Haldwani, Uttarakhand.
The protest was led by Secunderabad DCC President Deepak John and witnessed the participation of PCC Vice-President and Sanathnagar Assembly Constituency Congress In-charge Dr. Kota Neelima, along with other Congress leaders and activists.
Dr. Kota Neelima alleged that when Rahul Gandhi demanded accountability from those responsible for the Haldwani incident, a case was instead filed against him, which, she said, amounted to an attempt to silence a voice that was raising legitimate questions on behalf of the people.
Secunderabad DCC President Deepak John said that instead of taking action against those responsible for the Haldwani incident, registering a case against Rahul Gandhi for raising the issue was unjustified. He reiterated that Congress leaders and workers would remain united in their efforts to protect democratic values and demanded the immediate withdrawal of the FIR against Rahul Gandhi.
