Marking a significant milestone in the development of the state capital, the Andhra Pradesh government formally launched the construction of the permanent building of the Andhra Pradesh High Court in Amaravati. The foundation works were inaugurated by Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister Narayana, who said the iconic judicial complex is targeted for completion by 2027.
The minister, along with representatives of the Raft Foundation, performed traditional rituals before commencing the construction works. Addressing the gathering, Narayana described the High Court building as one of the most prestigious projects in the capital’s master plan, underscoring its importance in shaping Amaravati as a world-class administrative and judicial hub.
According to the minister, the High Court complex is being designed as a landmark structure, comprising two basement levels, a ground floor, and seven additional floors. Spread across approximately 21 lakh square feet, the building will house 52 court halls, along with supporting infrastructure to meet the long-term requirements of the judiciary.
He said the scale of the project reflects both its functional and symbolic significance, noting that nearly 45,000 tonnes of steel would be used in the construction. The design, he added, aims to combine architectural grandeur with operational efficiency, ensuring adequate space for judges, advocates, litigants, and court staff. “The commencement of the High Court building works is a historic moment in the journey of building Amaravati as the capital of Andhra Pradesh,” Narayana said, adding that the government was committed to completing the project within the stipulated time frame without compromising on quality.
The launch of the High Court project is seen as a crucial step in accelerating capital city construction, following years of delays. Officials said the project would also generate employment and boost allied economic activity in the region.
