The Communist Party of India (CPI) has strongly opposed the allotment of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) land near Alipiri for a corporate hotel project, calling it a "grave assault on temple sanctity and public faith".
CPI National control commission chairman Dr. K. Narayana alleged that nearly 25 acres of sacred TTD land at Devalok near Alipiri, had been diverted through government departments and allotted to the Oberoi group. He questioned how a luxury hotel could be permitted in a sacred pilgrimage zone.
Talking to newsmen after inspecting the site on Saturday along with CPI leaders and cadres, Dr. Narayana said such decisions violated the spirit under which temple lands were historically protected and used for public welfare and education. “A star hotel inevitably brings bars, pubs and non-vegetarian food. Can such activities be allowed on temple land?", he asked, questioning the authority of the TTD Board to take such a decision.
The CPI leader alleged that the move reflected 'corporate influence backed by political leadership', stating that “remote control lies in Delhi". Dr. Narayana also criticised Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, saying genuine devotion would never allow commercial exploitation of sacred lands.
Highlighting social inequality, he said while prime land is being allotted to corporates, poor families are being relocated far from Tirupati without basic amenities. “If houses for the poor were built here, that would be true service to God", he remarked.
Dr. Narayana recalled that a similar proposal during the previous YSRCP regime was withdrawn following public opposition, warning that reintroducing it under a different name reflected a “bankrupt policy” of the TTD.
Raising concerns over night-time construction activities and the fate of Red sandalwood trees in the area, he demanded transparency and accountability.
The CPI demanded for immediate withdrawal of the decision, cancellation of the Oberoi hotel allotment and an immediate halt to all construction activities
Warning of intensified agitation, Dr. Narayana said the CPI would not tolerate any compromise on temple sanctity and public interest.
