CS Krishna Rao retiring in March

Telangana Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao, a 1991-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the Telangana cadre, is set to retire on March 31, following the completion of a seven-month extension granted by the Centre. 

His superannuation will bring to a close a tenure that has coincided with several key phases of the state’s administrative and developmental journey.

Ramakrishna Rao assumed charge as Chief Secretary on 30 April, 2025, bringing with him long-standing experience in public finance and governance. Widely regarded as a specialist in fiscal management, he earlier served as Special Chief Secretary for Finance and is credited with steering the preparation of 14 state Budgets, including two vote-on-account budgets an achievement that has earned him a reputation as a steady and technically sound administrator.

An alumnus of IIT Kanpur and IIT Delhi, Rao also holds an MBA in Investments, reflecting his strong grounding in both engineering and financial management. Over the course of his career, he has held several senior positions, including Director General of the Centre for Good Governance (CGG) and Collector and District Magistrate in Adilabad and Guntur.
