Hyderabad police arrested three persons involved in an attention diversion cheating case and recovered a stolen gold ring in Warasiguda on Saturday. The arrests were made by the crime team of Warasiguda Police Station under Crime No. 20/2026 registered under Sections 318(4) and 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The case relates to an incident that occurred on February 5 at Lalitha Nagar, opposite Jamia Osmania Railway Station. The complainant, Venigalla Ravi, 62, a retired GST superintendent, was approached by two unknown persons on the pretext of asking for drinking water. Gaining his confidence, they convinced him to hand over a gold ring weighing about half a thula, claiming they would perform special prayers for his well-being.
Soon after taking the ring, one of the accused swallowed it and both fled the spot, later joining a third accomplice waiting nearby in an auto. Based on the complaint, Warasiguda Police registered a case and launched an investigation.
Through continuous CCTV footage analysis and local informants, police traced and apprehended the three accused — Subhash Nath, Karan Nath and Sohan Nath — all natives of Madhya Pradesh who had migrated to Hyderabad for livelihood. The stolen gold ring weighing about 5 grams was recovered during the operation.
Police said the accused targeted elderly persons by posing as religious mendicants. The arrests were made under the supervision of senior officers of the Secunderabad Zone, and the investigation was carried out by the Warasiguda police crime team.
