The Council for Scientific and Industrial Research -National Geophysical Research Institute (CSIR-NGRI) one of India’s premier geo-scientific research institutions hosted an "open day" for students and the general public on Friday to commemorate the 84th “CSIR Foundation Day”. This event was meant to bring advanced scientific research close to the general public, particularly young students. Around 2,500 students from various schools and colleges, and the general public visited the institute and interacted with experienced scientists.

Scientists demonstrated geophysical exploration techniques used to study the Earth’s subsurface. They explained how earthquakes are recorded and analyzed, how groundwater resources are mapped and monitored, and how natural resources like minerals are explored. These exchanges helped students understand how science impacts their daily lives. A Quiz program was organized for the students, followed by a brief interaction with senior scientists. The event was coordinated by Dr. Ajay Manglik, Chief Scientist and Chairman of the Foundation Day Committee.
