Kavitha said Telangana Jagruthi had warned the government in 2024 that the project would undermine Telangana’s water rights and demanded that AP's plans be stopped.
Metro India News | Hyderabad : Telangana Rakshana Sena chief Kalvakuntla Kavitha accused the Revanth Reddy government of compromising Telangana’s water interests by agreeing to the Polavaram-Banakacherla link project. She alleged that Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy was offering Telangana’s rightful share of 250 TMC of Godavari water to his political mentor and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu as ‘Guru Dakshina’.
In a post on X on Wednesday, Kavitha said the Congress government’s agreement to the project at the Southern States Council meeting convened by the National Water Development Agency (NWDA) exposed its double standards.
She said officials had also proposed taking up the Godavari-Cauvery river-linking project from Sammakka Sagar (Tupakulagudem). She alleged that Revanth was facilitating river interlinking in a manner favouring the Banakacherla project.
Kavitha claimed that Revanth had agreed to the project during both the Southern States Council meeting and a meeting between the Andhra Pradesh and Telangana Chief Ministers convened by the Union Jal Shakti Minister. However, he was publicly opposing it while allegedly extending support behind the scenes, she charged.
Kavitha said Telangana Jagruthi had warned the government in 2024 that the project would undermine Telangana’s water rights and demanded that AP's plans be stopped. She criticised the government for lacking a clear policy and basic understanding of river-water utilisation, saying its contradictory stand could prove costly for Telangana.
Urging Revanth to recognise the potential damage, she demanded that the State withdraw from all Centre-led consultations on the project and write to the Prime Minister seeking its rejection. She warned that any injustice to Telangana’s water rights would not be tolerated.
