The Hyderabad Cyber Crime Police on Friday arrested four persons for allegedly facilitating a Rs 1.46-crore investment fraud by operating mule bank accounts and routing the proceeds to Singapore-based cyber fraudsters through hawala networks.
The accused were identified as Chokkala Sampath of Siddipet, Hechu Naresh, Endla Suresh and Vadkala Mahesh, all residents of Secunderabad.
According to police, the case originated from a complaint filed on February 13, 2026. The victim alleged that fraudsters, posing as a woman on the Sangam Matrimony platform, developed a relationship on the pretext of marriage before luring him into investing in a fake online investment scheme promising high returns.
The victim transferred Rs 46.65 lakh to multiple bank accounts. When he attempted to withdraw the money, the fraudsters demanded additional charges and later blocked access to the funds, prompting him to approach the police.
Investigation revealed that mule bank accounts in Telangana and Maharashtra, including accounts with Indian Overseas Bank, were used to route Rs 35 lakh of the cheated amount. The accused allegedly opened and managed these accounts, withdrew the funds and facilitated their transfer while earning commissions of 10 to 30 percent on deposits. The accused were arrested by the Cyber Crime Police under the supervision of ACP Siva Maruthi and Inspector K.M. Raghavendra.
