Cyberabad Police book 273 for drunk driving

According to officials, among those booked were 214 two-wheeler riders, eight three-wheeler drivers, 49 four-wheeler drivers and two heavy vehicle drivers. The checks were carried out at several locations during the weekend as part of intensified enforcement to curb drunken driving and ensure road safety.

Police said blood alcohol concentration (BAC) tests showed that 234 offenders had BAC levels ranging between 36 mg/100 ml and 200 mg/100 ml. Another 23 motorists recorded BAC levels between 201 mg/100 ml and 300 mg/100 ml. Sixteen offenders were found with BAC levels between 301 mg/100 ml and 550 mg/100 ml.

All the offenders will be produced before the court.

Cyberabad Police warned that drunken driving is a serious offence. If an intoxicated driver causes a fatal accident, the person will be booked under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, which carries a punishment of up to 10 years imprisonment along with a fine.

445 drunk drivers caught in Hyd

Hyderabad Traffic Police conducted a two-day special drive on March 6 and 7, to curb drunken driving and ensure road safety. During the operation, a total of 445 drivers were caught operating vehicles under the influence of alcohol.

Among those apprehended, 377 were two-wheeler riders, 22 were three-wheeler drivers, and 46 were four-wheeler and other vehicle operators.

The blood alcohol concentration (BAC) levels of offenders varied significantly. Authorities recorded 100 cases between 30-50 mg%, 191 cases between 51-100 mg%, and 84 cases between 101-150 mg%. Additionally, 39 cases were between 151-200 mg%, 12 cases between 201-250 mg%, 9 cases between 251-300 mg%, and 10 cases exceeded 300 mg%.

The Traffic Police emphasized zero tolerance for drunken driving violations and stated that such special drives will continue regularly. Commuters are urged to cooperate with authorities and strictly follow traffic rules to prevent accidents.

Officials said the campaign aims to raise awareness about responsible driving while reducing road accidents caused by alcohol consumption. Drivers caught violating the law will face strict penalties under traffic regulations.
