Ahead of the New Year celebrations on December 31, Cyberabad Traffic Police have issued strict traffic guidelines to ensure public safety. Cab, taxi, and auto-rickshaw operators are required to be in proper uniform, carry all necessary documents, and must not refuse service to passengers under Section 178 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. Complaints of refusal can be sent via WhatsApp with vehicle details. Drivers are also prohibited from misbehaving with passengers or charging excess fares.
Bars, pubs, and clubs are strictly warned against allowing intoxicated customers to drive. Establishments must educate patrons about the dangers of drunk driving and arrange safe transport alternatives. Failure to comply will result in prosecution for abetting a crime.
The public is informed that special traffic cameras will monitor violations such as wrong-side driving, overspeeding, signal jumping, rash driving, and riding without helmets. Drunk driving checks will begin from 8 PM across Cyberabad, and vehicles without valid documents may be taken into temporary custody. Minor drivers or those without a valid license will face vehicle detention and legal action. Vehicles with high-decibel music, without number plates, or overcrowded will also be seized and sent to the RTO.
Drunk driving offenders face penalties including fines up to Rs. 15,000, imprisonment up to two years, and suspension or permanent revocation of driving licenses. In cases of accidents causing death under intoxication, offenders will be prosecuted under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 2023 for culpable homicide. Citizens are urged to follow traffic rules, travel safely, and exercise self-responsibility during the celebrations.
