Cyberabad Traffic Police (CTP) conducted a special weekend enforcement drive to check drunk driving, resulting in the apprehension of 377 offenders. The operation aimed at ensuring road safety and reducing accidents caused by inebriated driving.
A breakdown of offenders by vehicle type showed that two-wheelers accounted for the majority with 300 cases, followed by four-wheelers with 58 cases. Three-wheelers contributed 17 cases, while heavy vehicles accounted for 2 offenders.
The offenders were also categorized based on their Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) levels. A total of 317 individuals recorded BAC levels between 35 mg/100 ml and 200 mg/100 ml. Another 39 offenders had BAC levels ranging from 201 mg/100 ml to 300 mg/100 ml, while 21 offenders were found with BAC levels between 301 mg/100 ml and 550 mg/100 ml. All accused have been produced before the Hon’ble Court for legal proceedings.
Cyberabad Police reiterated that driving under the influence of alcohol is a serious offence. In cases where such driving leads to fatal accidents, offenders can be booked under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, for culpable homicide not amounting to murder, which carries a maximum punishment of 10 years in prison along with a fine.
In the past week, from December 22 to 27, 55 drunk driving cases were disposed of in court. Among them, one person received a fine plus jail term, five were given fine plus social service, and 49 offenders were fined only.
