Delay of road expansion causing inconvenience to commuters

Delays in the execution of a major road expansion project in Ghatkesar have sparked concern among residents and commuters, who say the prolonged construction is causing severe inconvenience and undermining the town's infrastructure development.  The government had sanctioned nearly Rs 30 crores for the widening of the 100-foot road stretching approximately 2.5 kilometers from the Bypass Road (Shivareddyguda) junction to the Madhava Reddy Bridge. The project also includes the construction of a central divider and installation of central street lighting to improve traffic flow and road safety. However, despite the substantial allocation of funds, the works have been progressing at a sluggish pace.

The road serves as a key transport corridor, with thousands of vehicles using it every day. IT employees commuting to nearby technology hubs, local traders, students, and residents rely heavily on this route for their daily travel. Although the expansion work began several months ago, locals say there has been little visible progress, leaving commuters to bear the brunt of the delays. Incomplete construction has resulted in heavy dust pollution, causing respiratory discomfort for motorists and shopkeepers operating along the roadside.

Residents also expressed concern over the absence of adequate warning signs and proper lighting at night, alleging that minor road accidents have become a frequent occurrence due to poor safety measures at the construction site. The slow pace of work has raised questions among the public over the utilization of the Rs 30 crores budget. Residents are demanding to know whether the delays are due to negligence on the part of the contractor or inadequate supervision by the concerned government departments.

People have urged senior officials to conduct an on-site inspection, ensure strict monitoring of the contractor, and expedite the completion of the road widening, divider construction, and central lighting works on a priority basis. Residents said the sanctioned funds should translate into visible development and expressed hope that the long-awaited beautification and modernization of the road will be completed without further delay.
