Singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh responds to pro-Khalistan protesters at Calgary show, says global tours highlight Punjab issues
Singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh briefly halted his concert in Calgary, Canada, after a section of the audience disrupted the show by waving pro-Khalistan flags during his Aura tour in May 2026. Addressing the protesters mid-performance, Diljit said, “Jitne jhande dikhane, dikhao” (show as many flags as you want), while maintaining that such actions should not interfere with the concert. Security personnel reportedly removed three individuals from the venue following the disruption.
He further added, “Edi jagah jedi kaam di aa othe use karo” (use these things where they are actually useful), signalling his disapproval of protests during live performances.
Responding to criticism over his international appearances, including The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Diljit said, “I didn’t go there to promote any film or song. I went there to bring Punjab and its issues to light.” Emphasising his consistent stance, he added, “Whichever platform I go to, I always talk about Punjab.” Videos from the concert soon went viral, drawing mixed reactions on social media. While many praised the singer for taking control of the situation, others felt he stopped short of directly criticising the protesters. Referring to similar incidents at past shows, Diljit asserted that disruptions would not be tolerated, underlining that his focus remains on representing Punjab on global platforms.
