Actress shares how she protected her sister from harassment, credits her mother for giving her courage to confront such situations
Actress Divya Dutta recently opened up about how she once stepped in to protect her sister during a disturbing eve-teasing incident. The actress revealed that the courage to confront such situations came from the support and lessons she received from her mother while growing up.
Divya, who currently stars in the Hindi series Chiraiya alongside Prasanna Bisht, spoke about the episode during an interview. She also reflected on how her early experiences shaped her confidence to stand up against harassment.
During the conversation, the actress shared an incident involving her sister, revealing that she is speaking about it publicly for the first time. According to Divya, she instinctively sensed that a man nearby was about to behave inappropriately. Recalling the moment, she said, “He was about to pinch my sister’s butt and I just held him. Now where did that confidence come from? Because I was psyched. It came from my mother. I just held him and whacked his wits. Everyone turned around and then everyone comes to help. That boy just ran away. This is passing it on. This confidence and standing up for someone you love.”
Divya explained that her mother played a major role in shaping her courage. She remembered another incident from her childhood when a boy repeatedly harassed her while she was returning home from her studies.
When she informed her mother about it, the response was immediate and decisive. The next day, her mother waited in the same lane with a group of people. When the boy appeared, she confronted him directly to ensure the harassment stopped. The actress added that such experiences during childhood play a crucial role in shaping how individuals deal with fear and stand up for themselves later in life.
