“Drunk drivers are ‘terrorists,’ and they won't get any mercy for endangering innocent lives.”
Hyderabad City Police Commissioner
Hyderabad City Police Commissioner V C Sajjanar has issued a stern warning against drunk driving, announcing a zero-tolerance policy and calling it a ‘crime, not a mistake.’ He minced no words as he said that drunk drivers are ‘terrorists,’ and they won't get any mercy for endangering innocent lives.
Sajjanar's stern message came after the Hyderabad-Bengaluru private sleeper bus hit a bike, which had already met in another accident. The collision killed the biker, Shiva Shankar, and 19 passengers on the bus. The officer also said the biker, who died in the tragedy, was drunk and caused the accident.
He said every offender will face the full force of the law with no leniency or mercy. Referring to the recent Kurnool bus tragedy, which claimed 20 lives, Sajjanar described it as a ‘preventable massacre’ caused by an intoxicated biker, B Shiva Shankar, who was seen in CCTV camera refueling his motorcycle at 2:24 am., minutes before the deadly collision at 2:39 am.
‘His arrogance turned into a tragedy that destroyed entire families,’ the Commissioner said. Reiterating his stance, Sajjanar declared, ‘Drunk drivers are terrorists. They destroy lives and futures. Such acts will never be tolerated.’ Hyderabad Police will intensify checks and legal action to curb the menace on city roads.
He stressed that Hyderabad police have a zero tolerance approach to drunken driving in the city. ‘Every single person caught driving under the influence will face the full force of law. There will be no leniency, no exceptions, and no mercy for those who endanger innocent lives. It's time that we, as a society, stop calling drunken driving a mistake. It is a crime that shatters lives and must be punished accordingly,’ the top cop further said.
