Drunk lorry driver penalized on NH-44

As part of intensified road safety checks on National Highway 44 in Satya Sai district, police fined a lorry driver Rs 10,000 for driving under the influence of alcohol. The enforcement drive was carried out at the Kodikonda check-post under the supervision of DSP K.V. Mahesh. Hindupur Rural Circle Inspector Janardhan said the team grew suspicious of a lorry driver during routine vehicle inspections and subjected him to a drunken driving test.

The test confirmed that the driver, Ajit Pal from Uttar Pradesh, was intoxicated while driving. Police took him into custody and produced him before the Hindupur Second Class Magistrate Court, which imposed the fine. Officials said checks will continue as drunken driving poses a serious threat to lives.
