The Telangana government will launch the ‘Vahan Portal’ from March 23, aiming to provide fast, transparent, and user-friendly vehicle services to the public. The portal will be inaugurated by the Minister for Transport and BC Welfare, Ponnam Prabhakar.

Through this portal, details of vehicles across the country will be accessible on a single platform. Vehicles registered in Telangana will now be part of the national database, enabling online access to services such as new vehicle registration, RC renewal, address or name changes, duplicate RC issuance, vehicle transfer, and deregistration. This digital system reduces the need for visiting RTA offices and limits middlemen involvement, increasing transparency in vehicle-related processes.

In a significant move, the government has abolished the additional 2% lifetime tax applicable on the purchase of a second vehicle, effective from March 23. For instance, buyers of a car worth Rs 10 lakh could save up to Rs 20,000. This step is expected to ease the financial burden on middle-class vehicle owners and simplify documentation during vehicle transfers or inter-state sales.

Commercial vehicle owners will also benefit, as permits, fitness certificates, and ownership transfers can now be completed online. Vehicle taxes, e-challan fines, and fees can be paid digitally, and banks’ hypothecation details can be removed once vehicle loans are cleared.

The integration with the central Vahan Portal is a major step towards modernizing vehicle services in Telangana, making them faster, easier, and more transparent for citizens across the state.
