James Burrows, who directed several episodes of Friends and shaped television comedy for over five decades, dies at 85

Legendary television director James Burrows, best known for directing episodes of the iconic sitcom Friends, died at the age of 85 on Friday. His family confirmed the news in a statement to People magazine. “We celebrate the extraordinary life and enduring legacy of James ‘Jimmy’ Burrows, who passed away 

peacefully today, surrounded by his loving family. For more than five decades, Burrows was one of the most influential and beloved directors in television history. As a legendary director, mentor, and creative force, he helped shape generations of comedy and brought immeasurable joy to audiences around the world,” the family said.

Burrows directed 15 episodes of Friends and was also associated with shows such as Taxi, Cheers, Frasier, Will & Grace and Mike & Molly. He won 11 Emmy Awards during his career.
