The Hyderabad City Traffic Police detected a case of number plate tampering after a vehicle owner complained of illegal traffic challans being issued against his two-wheeler. Following verification, the Chaderghat Police registered a criminal case and arrested the accused for using a fake registration number.

According to police, the accused, Syed Aliuddin of Malakpet, had altered the registration number of his two-wheeler from TS11EZ2936 to TS11EZ2836. The original number belongs to Faheem Ali, who approached traffic police after noticing repeated challans issued for violations he had not committed. During checks, officials confirmed that the accused had deliberately modified the number plate to mislead enforcement authorities.

Police said the misuse resulted in 23 traffic challans being wrongly generated against the genuine vehicle owner. Based on the findings, FIR No. 48/2026 was registered at Chaderghat Police Station under Sections 319(2) and 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Sections 158 and 177 of the Motor Vehicles Act. Further investigation is underway.

The Hyderabad Traffic Police warned that using fake or tampered number plates is a serious offence and will attract strict legal action. Officials said advanced systems such as CCTV surveillance and ANPR cameras are being used across the city to identify such violations.
