Hyderabad: Chandrayangutta Police have arrested five individuals in connection with the deaths of Syed Irfan (29) and Jahangir Khan (25), who collapsed after receiving Atranium 25 mg injections near Farooq-e-Azam Masjid on December 3.
Police investigations revealed that the deceased had obtained the injections through an illegal network. Accused Choude Akash, a ward boy at ABS Hospital, stole the anesthesia vials from the hospital, which were later sold by Jarpati Shiva Shankar to the victims. Yamjala Kalyan, along with the deceased, purchased the injections and administered them, leading to their deaths.
Hospital negligence also played a role. Dr. S. Jaipal Reddy, MD of ABS Hospitals, and Mohammed Vikaruddin, a surgeon’s assistant, failed to secure the remaining anesthesia vials post-surgery, enabling the theft and misuse.
The police credited the Chandrayangutta team, led by ACP A. Sudhakar, SHO R. Gopi, and HNEW Inspector Bala Swamy, for the swift action. The accused have been booked under relevant sections, including 105, 106(1), 306, and 49 R/w 3(5) BNS.
