Hyderabad: A young man was arrested for allegedly murdering a woman at her residence in Bapuji Nagar, Musheerabad, Secunderabad, on December 8. The victim, Pavitra, daughter of Smt. Jadaga Laxmi, was stabbed to death following a dispute with the accused, Dukka Uma Shanker, 24, a distant relative.
According to the police, the complainant and her family, originally from Srikakulam, Andhra Pradesh, had returned from a religious trip to Vijayawada on December 7. On the next day, Uma Shanker arrived at their house unannounced and argued with Pavitra over her visit. The dispute escalated when Pavitra confronted the accused about his repeated harassment. During the confrontation, Uma Shanker allegedly stabbed her in the throat with a knife, killing her on the spot.
Police investigation involved reviewing CCTV footage, which helped trace the accused near Skandagiri Temple, Chilkalguda. He was apprehended at his brother’s residence on Wednesday. During questioning, he confessed to the murder, citing rejection as the motive. Police recovered cash of Rs 1,10,000, a smartphone, a wallet, and several cards belonging to the deceased.
Uma Shanker, a resident of Rehamathnagar, Yousufguda, Hyderabad, works in tile business and hails from Golla Vedhi, Srikakulam.
