Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka laid the foundation stone for the Jawahar Lift Irrigation scheme with an estimated cost of Rs.630.30 crore at Vangaveedu village of Madhira Assembly constituency in Khammam district on Sunday.
Ministers Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, Uttam Kumar Reddy, Vakiti Srihari and Ponguleti Srinivas Rao, MLAs, MLCs and several other leaders were present in the programme.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister for Roads and Buildings Komatireddy Venkat Reddy announced that the upcoming project aims to supply irrigation water to about 60,000 acres of land in the near future.
He noted that Bhatti Vikramarka has been elected as an MLA four consecutive times and served as the leader of the opposition during the previous BRS government. Despite the fact that many Congress MLAs defected during that time, Bhatti Vikramarka, alongside five MLAs, stood against the KCR administration and played a key role in bringing the party back to power.
Komatireddy indicated that the SLBC tunnel had fallen into disrepair due to the negligence of the former KCR government, but the current administration is dedicated to its reconstruction. "We will accomplish this soon," he stated. Komatireddy also mentioned that, with the assistance of Irrigation Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy, they are working to finalise all pending irrigation initiatives, including Brahmana Vellamla, Dindi, Palamuru Lift Irrigation, and Devadula.
Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka stated that for ten years, the previous BRS government did not care about water projects. Bhatti Vikramarka stated that even though he had discussed the Jawahar project for several years and the issue was brought up in the Assembly, the prior government did not consider it. According to Bhatti, when the Congress government took office, Irrigation Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy took the initiative and granted all the necessary approvals for the project's completion.
