Hyderabad Metro Rail Ltd (HMRL) is in the final stages of completing India’s first fully automated multi-level parking complex at Nampally.
HMRL Managing Director NVS Reddy inspected the site on Sunday and announced that the facility will open to the public soon, following final approvals from relevant government bodies.
Developed under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) with firm Novum, the project features Germany’s cutting-edge ‘Palis’ puzzle parking technology. It is the first such system in India and among the most advanced worldwide. Constructed on 2,000 square yards of HMRL land under a 50-year concession, the Rs 102 crore investment was led by Dr. Harikishan Reddy and Bhavana Reddy.
The complex consists of 15 floors 10 for parking (3 basement and 7 upper levels) and 5 for commercial use, including two modern cinemas and a city-viewing gallery on the 11th floor. It can accommodate 250 cars and 200 two-wheelers.
The fully automated system uses sensors to categorize vehicles SUVs, sedans, and hatchbacks and parks them without human intervention. Unlike systems in Delhi and Mumbai, it operates pallet-free, enabling smoother parking. Entry and exit points include smart terminals and flat turntables that rotate 360 degrees, catering to seniors, women, and differently-abled users.
Users receive a QR-coded smart card upon arrival, which guides them through a seamless process. After parking the car on the turntable and exiting, a card swipe initiates automated parking. Retrieval is just as simple: users pay, swipe their card, and the vehicle is returned automatically.
Reddy emphasized that this project will offer a world-class parking experience, solving urban parking challenges while setting a new benchmark for safety, convenience, and innovation. It’s expected to revolutionize parking not only in Hyderabad but across India.
