The grand Ganesh immersion celebrations across Greater Hyderabad concluded smoothly and successfully, with more than 2.70 lakh idols immersed in various lakes and artificial ponds. The sanitation staff of GHMC, police, electricity department, HMDA, HMWSSB, revenue, and other government wings worked in unison for ensuring the success of the event without disruption.

Iconic idols, including Khairatabad Maha Ganapati and Balapur Ganesh, were immersed as part of the grand procession along the 303 km route, which was repaired and cleared for a smoother flow.

Around 15,000 GHMC workers were deployed in three shifts, working round-the-clock to keep procession routes and immersion points clean. As part of these efforts, over 11,200 tonnes of excess waste were collected and shifted to the Jawahar Nagar processing facility.

Special Ganesh Action Teams ensured plastic and other waste were immediately cleared along routes, while additional squads managed timely garbage removal. GHMC also created 72 artificial ponds to reduce pressure on natural lakes and avoid traffic congestion, enabling smoother local immersions.

Enroute, in all directions leading to the Tank Bund, GHMC and HMWSSB set up booths with water and food which was welcomed by the devotees.

Tech-driven Ganesh immersion this time around

Hyderabad City Police Commissioner C V Anand credited advanced technology for the smooth and peaceful execution of this year’s Ganesh idol immersion.

Nine drones and CCTV cameras on 35 high-rise buildings enabled real-time monitoring of processions. This helped in effective crowd management and quick response to incidents.

Anand reported that 1,070 people were apprehended for misbehaving near Khairatabad Ganesh and for pick pocketing, though overall crime saw a decline compared to last year.

The main immersion procession began at 6:30 am on September 6 and lasted for 40 hours.

Online registration was used for 12,034 idols, of which 6,300 were immersed by Saturday. Another 1.2 lakh idols were immersed at smaller ponds and immersion points. About 900 more were expected to be immersed on Sunday.

Despite minor alterations on Saturday night, only five cases were registered. Anand thanked his team for ensuring a peaceful and efficient conclusion to the large-scale event.
