Acting on directions of the High Court and instructions from the State Government, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation carried out a special drive to remove encroachments on footpaths and road margins across the city on Sunday. The operation was planned zone-wise, with one major road stretch identified in each zone and staff mobilised from all circles to ensure smooth execution.

Multiple wings of GHMC coordinated closely for the drive. The Vigilance Wing worked with Traffic and Law & Order Police to manage movement, the Engineering Wing arranged manpower and machinery, and the Sanitation Wing handled debris clearance after removal of encroachments. Senior officials, including the GHMC Commissioner R.V. Karnan, Chief City Planner, and Zonal Commissioners, monitored the operation on the ground. The Commissioner inspected the drive at Jambagh in Goshamahal and instructed officials to carry out the process systematically.

The drive was conducted successfully across all six zones. A total of 798 encroachments were cleared, including 340 permanent and 458 temporary structures. Shamshabad recorded the highest at 222, followed by Rajendranagar with 175, Charminar with 162, Golconda with 154, Secunderabad with 60, and Khairatabad with 25.

Officials said the initiative is part of ongoing efforts to improve traffic flow and protect public spaces. GHMC stated that similar drives will continue in the coming days and urged citizens and shopkeepers to avoid encroaching on footpaths and road margins, warning that violations will be removed without notice.
