The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has stepped up efforts to make the city cleaner, with 1,458 metric tonnes of solid waste and 547 metric tonnes of construction debris cleared so far. GHMC Commissioner R.V. Karnan has directed Zonal and Deputy Commissioners to intensify sanitation efforts and ensure proactive implementation of cleanliness programmes across the city.
Chairing a WebEx review meeting with Additional Commissioners, Zonal Commissioners, senior engineering officials, and department heads on Saturday, the Commissioner emphasized strict adherence to the Special Sanitation Drive action plan. He called for extensive public awareness campaigns and active citizen participation to transform Greater Hyderabad into a clean and hygienic city.
The drive, launched with the cleaning of foot overbridges, has over the past six days expanded to flyovers, roadsides, dividers, central medians, kerb stones, lakes, nalas, footpaths, parks, and the removal of construction and demolition (C&D) waste. Across 300 GHMC wards, sanitation works were carried out at 1,204 identified hotspots, including garbage-prone areas and public parks.
To ensure effective execution, Commissioner Karnan, along with Zonal and Deputy Commissioners, has been conducting surprise field inspections. The drive underscores GHMC’s commitment to sustainable cleanliness and a healthier urban environment, encouraging residents to participate in maintaining the city’s hygiene.
